Here you can find a list of institutions and societies concerned with the natural history of Iceland. These are both governmental institutions as well as nature conservation societies and educational.

Icelandic Institute of Natural History - Keeps the largest herbarium of Icelandic vascular plants, bryophytes and fungi and zoological collections of Icelandic birds, mammals, arthopods and bottom dwelling marine invertebrates.

Mývatn Research Station - Research station monitoring Mývatn lake in northern Iceland. Mývatn lake is renowned for its biodiversity and a is on the Ramsar list.

Institutes of Freshwater Fisheries

Marine Research Institute - The Marine Research Institute (MRI), established in 1965, is a government institute under the auspices of the Ministry of Fisheries. MRI conducts various marine research and provides the Ministry with scientific advice based on its research on marine resources and the environment.

The Environment agency - A governmental body with responsibility for Nature conservation matters, Wildlife Management and pollution monitoring.
